Argentine Sisters of Mercy founded Adelaide’s St Aloysius College in 1880.
Staff and students of SAC visited its sister school, St Ethnea College in 2003. It was on this tour that music teacher Craig Evans was touched by the plight of the poor children in the adjacent shanty towns.
In 2004 Craig returned to Argentina, and with funds raised by SAC staff and students, numerous projects in the ‘barrios’ were initiated.
Returning from his 5 month stay, Craig was greeted by a whole school community committed to continuing the struggle to improve the conditions for children living in hardship. The ‘Mercy in Action’ Project aims to continue this work.
